Heart of Darkness and the Congo Diary - Joseph Conrad After getting used to the writing style, I loved this book. Its prose is amongst the most beautiful and complex that I've ever encountered, and the story itself is very dark and compelling (once you figure out what's happening). The narrator goes about trying to tell a story and describe something that he sometimes can't completely grasp himself, but considering one of the huge themes in the book is futility, it works. I can see why some people wouldn't like this book; nevertheless, I can see myself reading it again and would recommend that others give it a try.
